Thinking Beyond Wellness: Approaching Obesity as A Disease in the Workplace
May 20 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Imagine a chronic, relapsing, and progressive disease that affects over 42% of the US adult population and continues to grow in prevalence. It acts as a driver of a multitude of other serious health conditions. It has been linked to $147 billion dollars in annual medical costs in the US alone. Despite this, delivery of comprehensive care for this condition is fragmented by barriers in the form of stigma, bias, perception, and access to care.
This is the current state of obesity.
Obesity is a serious, complex, and chronic condition with profound negative impact on employee health, quality of life, and productivity. But what role can employers play in removing barriers to care and supporting comprehensive obesity management? Conducted in a TedTalk-style format, this program will provide an overview of the current state of obesity in the US, explore the science behind obesity, and share strategies for an inclusive and comprehensive benefit for employees.
